Office of Military Education and Training

    (1)The whole-academic-year program "All-out Defense Education Military Training" provided by the Department of International Business for class 1B is taught completely in English. All the teaching related activities and materials are in English, including teaching plans, teaching contents, teaching materials, discussions, reports (schoolwork), exams and evaluations (questions formulated by the teacher and responses by the students), and in-class interactions.

2.    Program Features

This program offers not only courses related to the 5 major fields of All-out Defense Education Military Training, but also, based on the university’s plan of “Service Learning Courses”, professional competency service learning courses for several classes every semester. In addition, the program combines the theories and practices of all-out defense education, leading students to high schools, elementary schools, and non-governmental groups to conduct promotional and educational campaigns of all-out defense education, for the purpose of implementing the idea of all-out defense education in the society.

3.    Program Planning

(1)  For first-year students, this program offers “All-out Defense Education Military Training” and “Nursing” required courses, including “Defense Technology” for the first semester and “Defense Policies” for the second semester.

(2)  For second- and higher-year students, this program offers “All-out Defense Education Military Training” optional courses, including “International Situations”, “Civil Defense”, and “Defense Mobilization”.

(3)  All the courses mentioned above contain “Military Training” related contents, with domestic and foreign current events and current statuses of national security as supplementary teaching materials, in order to improve students’ awareness of national security, increase their patriotism, and expand their views regarding international strategies.

4.    Teachers

Currently there are 28 military instructors (including 3 in the Lanyang Campus) and 2 nursing teachers. The optional courses for second- and higher-year students are taught by six military instructors including the Chief Mr.Chin-Tai Li. The required courses for first-year students are taught by all the other over 22 military instructors. The nursing courses are taught by 2 nursing teachers (see Table 1 in the appendix).

5.    Program Related Regulations

(1)  The courses provided by this program include the required courses for first-year students and the optional courses for second- and higher-year students. The required courses for first-year students include “All-out Defense Education Military Training” for male students and “Nursing” for female students, worth no credit point. Each of the optional courses is worth 1 credit point, which is not counted as a graduate credit point.

(2)  The full marks are 100 points and passing marks are 60 points. Students who fail a required course, “All-out Defense Education Military Training” or “Nursing” must retake that course.

(3)  Students are evaluated based on their assignment and class performance, mid-term exam and final exam scores.
